PRESIDENT
Position Summary:
As the chief elected officer of the Chapter, the
President exists to develop policies, strategies, and objectives consistent with
VSHRM, MISHRM and SHRM policy, ensuring effective chapter operations in order to
meet needs of the members. The President also provides guidance to elected and
volunteer staff who are responsible for accomplishing objectives.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct the business of
the chapter in accordance with the chapter bylaws and serve as chairperson of
the chapter's Board of Directors.
- Preside over the
activities of all officers and directors, as well as standing committees, to
ensure the accomplishment of chapter goals, objectives, and strategies.
- Develops and monitors
the chapter budget, authorizes all expenditures and accounting practices.
- Chair all meetings of
chapter officers and members.
- Participate in the
development and implementation of short-term and long-term strategy planning
for the chapter.
- Represent the chapter in
the Human Resources community.
- Attend State Council
meetings and actively participate in State Council matters, as an elected
representative of the chapter. Appoint proxy to attend State Council meetings
when unable to attend.
- Maintain communication
with the State Council Director and the SHRM Regional Team.
- Communicate state,
regional and/or SHRM goals, policies, and programs to chapter members.
- Serves as primary
Chapter contact person.
- Upholds Chapter By-laws,
makes final call on by-law interpretation and oversees any by-law
modifications.
- Ensures necessary board
succession planning, assisting nominating committee in identifying new Board
members for upcoming year, and providing training and transition with
President-Elect.
- Oversees completion and
submission of annual Chapter Activity Plan to SHRM.
Requirements:
- Must be an SHRM member
in good standing elected by the chapter membership.
- Be elected from the
current year’s Chapter membership by its voting members no later than November
of each year.
Position Objectives &
Metrics:
- Schedules & oversees
monthly Board meetings, 10 per program year.
- Submits annual budget to
Board by September of program year.
- Maintains list of Board
members, submitting a copy to SHRM Area Rep by December.
- Targets goals and
activities towards the attainment of Superior Merit Award status.
- Attends three out of
four quarterly MISHRM Council meetings.
- Attends six out of ten
general membership program meetings.
- Attends six out of ten
Board meetings.
- Orders Past President
plaque from SHRM by May, for June presentation.
- Orders Board Member
plaques for departing members by May, for June presentation.
