Q: Who is SHRM?
SHRM was founded over 50 years ago, has a membership of over 215 member organizations. While affiliated with National SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management), our chapter operates independently to provide a wide variety of professional development and networking opportunities for area HR professionals. Our Chapter's diverse membership represents large and small corporations and organizations in the area, ranges in experience from entry level to senior level individuals.  All SHRM chapter policies, practices, activities and actions are free from discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, age, national origin, disability or veteran status.

Q: What is the relationship between us and the National SHRM?
Membership in National SHRM (based in Alexandria, Virginia) is separate from our SHRM Chapter. While membership in national SHRM is recommended it is not required to join our SHRM chapter. National SHRM is the leading voice of the human resource profession, representing the interests of more than 150,000 professional and student members from around the world. National SHRM membership benefits are abundant and include subscriptions to several publications, access to the SHRM Information Center and the Legislative Hotline, just to name a few. For further SHRM membership information, visit the National SHRM website.

Q: Who can join SHRM?
Individuals who have responsibility for performing a variety of human resource functions such as: human resource administration, employee and labor relations, benefits, compensation, training and development, safety and environment, recruitment, and employment and students pursuing a degree in human resources and are a member of their college or university's student SHRM.

Q: How do I join SHRM?
SHRM annual dues are on an anniversary basis and it costs $160 for an annual membership with NO maximum amount for additional company associates.
To join, just click here and fill out the Contact Info.

Q: How do I join VSHRM?
You can contact our membership chair, Renee Connon (see the Board tab in the left column), or sign up on the website (see the Membership Form tab in the left column).  (Return to top)

Q: How does one join the Board?
To join the board, please contact one of the board members and make your interest known to them.
If a position is available, the Board will recommend your name to membership. Upon approval, you will be elected.
If there is one or more parties interested with only one position open. The Board will discuss each nominees' qualifications and recommend one for membership approval.

Q: What do you do at VSHRM membership meetings?
VSHRM meets every second Tuesday every month from September through June. Check meeting schedule, or RSVP schedule if you are a member, for meeting locations and times.

Following a delicious meal which allows chapter members to casually network, we have a brief update from the President on chapter business, then devote approximately 45 minutes to a speaker regarding a designated topic relevant to the human resource profession.

Each speaker and topic is picked based upon the membership survey, which is conducted every May. Meetings usually last up to one and one-half hours

Q: What if I have registered to attend a VSHRM meeting, and later determine I cannot attend?
VALLEY SOCIETY FOR HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT RESERVATION/CANCELLATION POLICY

The Valley Society for Human Resource Management (“VSHRM”) regular and associate membership, students and/or guests enjoy the monthly lunch or dinner meetings coordinated to address or inform our members of ‘hot’ topics or HR issues. We have maintained costs due to our members, students and guests abiding by the reservation/cancellation policy. The following items are just a reminder of that policy:

Reservations for membership meetings must be received by 12:00 p.m. the Thursday prior to the meeting. If your reservation not received by 12:00 p.m. the Thursday prior to the meeting or you miss the deadline, a late fee of $5.00 will be assessed.

Due to expenses incurred by the association, in the event you make a reservation but fail to attend the meeting you are still responsible for payment and you will be invoiced for payment prior to the next membership meeting.

Cancellation notices must be received by 12:00 p.m. the Thursday prior to the meeting to avoid being invoiced for payment.

This policy applies to all membership meetings, including the May seminar and is subject to modification by the Board.
